シェークスピアの生家のある
ストラトフォー アポン エイヴォンへ
息子と行ってきた。
I went to Stratfor-upon-Avon,
where Shakespeare's birthplace is located,
with my son.
バーミンガムで電車で約１時間。
今回は、イギリスで初めて自転車を持って
電車に乗ってみた。
駅までも、そして現地でも自転車を使えるので
すごく便利だった。
It's about an hour by train from Birmingham.
This time, I took my bicycle on the train for the first time in the UK.
It was incredibly convenient because I could use the bicycle both to get to the station and at my destination.
着いたてお昼を食べ、
シェークスピアの生家を訪れた。
今回は、中には入らなかったが、
あの有名なシェークスピアの生家かと思うと
感慨深かった。
We had lunch as soon as we arrived,
and then visited Shakespeare's birthplace.
We didn't go inside this time,
but it was a deeply moving experience to think that it was the birthplace of the famous Shakespeare.
その後、自転車で エイヴォン川の方へ行った。
Stratford Big Wheel 大きな観覧車に乗ってみた。日本であるようなゆっくり1 周するタイプのものでなく、少し速めのスピードで回り、すき間もあるタイプで５周ぐらいする観覧車だった。この日は、風も強かったので、かなり怖くて、
中の柱にしがみついていた。
サービスのつもりか、最後は、一番高い位置で、止まり、早く下ろしてほしかった。
After that, I cycled towards the River Avon.
I rode the Stratford Big Wheel.
It wasn't the slow, one-rotation type like those in Japan; it rotated at a slightly faster speed, with open windows inside, and it went around about five times. It was quite windy that day, so I was pretty scared, so I was holding the metal bar of inside.
Perhaps as a service, it stopped at the highest point at the end; I just wanted to be let down quickly.
お天気は良くないけど、
観覧車から遠く景色までよく見えた。
その後は、川沿いをサイクリング。
平坦な道で走りやすく、
始めての町だったので、
探検のようで楽しかった。
最後は、ロイヤルシェークスピア劇場で、
無料展示を見てきた。
お芝居で使われた衣装をいろいろ見ることができた。知っていら作品も多かった。
今度は、お芝居を見に来たいなと思った。
The weather wasn't great, but
I could see the scenery far away from the Ferris wheel.
After that, I went cycling along the river.
The road was flat and easy to ride on,
and since it was my first time in the town,
it felt like an exploration and was fun.
Finally, I went to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre,
and saw the free exhibition.
I was able to see various costumes used in plays. I recognized many of the works.
I thought I'd like to come back and see a play next time.
